In the world we live in today... everybody should have the side hustle. More and more the world is shifting to the "gig economy" with the emergence of companies like Uber. The not so new philosophy is that you should diversify your revenue stream. Most people are beholden to that one "day job" and we live at the mercy of the one...single... paycheck. But you can be different than former you! Start your own side gig and bring some money in that is not directly related to the day job. You can do the Uber or Lyft thing... but really think about what you can bring to the party and what you can do to earn some money. What skill do you have that people will pay for? Now, if you can widdle a world's best birdhouse, there are ways to sell that online but what if you are the best closet organizer on the planet? What do you do then? Well then you need to create your own web presence and get your unique business out to the world.

There are many ways to create some revenue beyond the obvious shopping cart and not every idea translates to a cart. You can schedule or book sessions of training or consulting. You can set up a members area with exclusive content for paid guests or maybe even a blog with ads on it.
Once you are online you can not neglect your more complete web presence. A social presence is just as vital as the site itself. It is the fastest easiest way to drive targeted local traffic to your new business website. Create some specific landing pages with deals for your guests and track the traffic to each page so you can see which deal works.
This is the 30,000 foot view for sure but for the person that wants that small business of their own... these are the main pillars of what is needed. The best part is that these don't have to cost a lot and that keeps the barriers of getting started low. One of the biggest reasons businesses never get started is that often, they may not know where or how to get started. The website and social are great and manageable places to get started and you can get back to doing whatever it is that you're great at!
